RENEWED DAILY: FINDING YOUR MISSION IN CHRIST (2 CORINTHIANS 4:16)

Week of 6/16/2017 entry from Bible Promises for You Men’s Group: Encouragement

Scripture:  2 Corinthians 4:16

Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Thought:  This is a message of being a disciple for the glory of God. it clearly conveys to us that we are mortal, but as we build God's kingdom we are gaining life, eternal life.

Application:  Fix my eyes on Godly things, not worldly things.

Response:  Father, please strengthen me to stay in your word so I can be the best son son, husband, and father that I can be. As I live my life I hope that many ask “what does that guy have, " and when I have the opportunity to answer them I can say I have you, I have Jesus.

Looking back Today (2025):  In this chapter we are told that the life of Jesus is revealed in our mortal body and that, “life is at work in you.”  I often find myself thinking what is my mission?  How can I be a better son, a better husband, a better father, but I am often troubled wanting to  know my mission, what would Jesus have me do to spread his word?  I ask myself questions like, how do the small changes in my life affect the world around me?  Perhaps the answer is found in verse 15?  “All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.”  There is not a “big mission,” rather the small mission of grace, of giving something freely to others so that God is glorified.  I started to realize this when I began sharing these journal entries, but today it hit home for me.  We are supposed to so simple things over, and over, and over again and to have FAITH that God will handle the rest.

  1. I know several people that are not very “religious” but live in a way and act in a way that mirrors what we believe - especially love (sacrificial love) of neighbor. My challenge is how to express these kinds of messages in a way that attracts them rather than turning them off. Many times I think the key is language but not language in the sense of English, Spanish, Italian. Any ideas how to express this message in non religious language? My hope and belief is that when we do that we start pulling them in with us.

  3. This scripture reminds me that we find rest in God even if we are constantly waging the war with our bodies. This week in my Bible study we are focusing on Ephesians 6:10-23 “The Armor of God” our bodies are not ment to last in this world however we can be strengthened in our spirit through God’s word.
