Week of 6/9/2017 entry from Bible Promises for You Men’s Group: Contentment
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6,10
Godliness with contentment is great gain. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
Thought: Love of worldly things can make you withdraw from a life leading to salvation.
Application: Be happy with what God provides in your life. Stay focused on him.
Response: Lord, than you for all that you provide. I am blessed by your action in my life and pledge to build your kingdom.
Looking back Today (2025): Focus… Why is it so hard for so many to focus on what is important? Personally, why do I learn the same lessons repeatedly? All I can offer you today is the reminder to love those that God places in your path each day. You may not know why they have been placed in your path, but consider for just a brief moment that they have been placed there for you to do his work. Don’t complicate things! It may be just a smile someone needs, a kind word, a simple thank you. Keep it simple!

Have you ever wondered why money is the root of all evil? I wonder if it is because money is all about transactions and power. And, love is not a transaction and is powerfully powerless
ReplyDelete"Powerfully powerless"... I am in agreement and want to express what you have shared differently. Love is a transaction, but withing that exchange you surrender your wants / needs / desires to caring for another.
DeleteYesterday our Paster spoke about Jonah. This message supports how our worldly selfishness can give satin a chance to get ahold of us. Thank you Frank. Always a good reminder to keep our armor on.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome... and thank you. When reading comments it allows me time to reflect. Reflection, in my opinion, is a way to take inventory of your day and see where I let down my guard (your armor) and shows me growth opportunities.
DeleteFocusing on God is the only way we can really live a holy life. If we put other things above Him, we lose sight of what is important. We should try our best to remember that God is behind everything in our lives and is here for us in our best and worst moments.
ReplyDeleteAgreed... it makes me think of a simple model for prayer. Give thanks for the best moments in our lives (our blessings) and seek forgiveness for our failures (worst moments).
DeleteContentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of what you already have.
DeleteGod have given us all that we need in His word and His son Jesus, our realization of that is precious.
I thought I realized that until I actually did. I was not content until then.
Blessings Frank, I’m just learning how this “blog thing” works! I need to figure out how to move it to my computer because of my eyes. Caleb is here tomorrow and I will get him to assist.
The older I get the more I have come to realize that I have been chasing the wrong thing most of my life. The pursuit of worldly things is a consumption of your life. It can and will overtake you. There is always something bigger, better, newer. I spent so many years knowing God but not abiding in God. Once I let it go and gave everything to him, including my buisness, finances and marriage, Everything else fell into place. There obviously is still a need for money to provide but the relentless pursuit for more is detrimental, at least for me. I had to do a priority check up a couple years ago. And it was a wake up call on how out of order I had things.
ReplyDeleteGod
Wife
Kids
everything else started to fall into its correct place after I changed who was number one on that list.
Society doesn't teach our kids balance. We tell them go to school & get good grades to get a good job. Many time we forget to emphasize the need to slow down, be a kid, spend time with those that you love and do the things that make you happy. As a parent I am overjoyed to see that Quinn has a relationship with Jesus because of how Renae and I prioritize this in our family.
ReplyDeleteIf only I could have that hypothetical letter written from a 57 year old me to read when I was 25 years old... likely could have changed many things.
