Week of 6/9/2017 entry from Bible Promises for You Men’s Group: Compassion
Scripture: Nehemiah 9:17
But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.
Thought: This is embedded in the story about the Israelites repentance. They were forgiven every time they turned their back on the Lord. It is a story about people who people continually fail, but God is always there to pick them up
Application: Acknowledge and live by Gods ways and avoid the trials / pruning in you life.
Response: Father, thank you for always being there… even when I least deserve it and I am ignoring you. I pray that I will fail you less often in the days that come and make you proud of the walk that we share.
Looking back Today (2025): The title of Nehemiah 9:1-37 is “ The Israelites Confess their Sins.” When I read verse 33 and replace some of the words in parenthesis the story jumps to life and is a fitting follow-up to the Easter season. Here is the verse with changed words ➡ (33) In all that has happened to us (me), you have remained righteous; you have acted faithfully, while we (I) acted wickedly. Perhaps, OWNERSHIP of your sins is the beginning of change!

Because God is so understanding with us, we have to be understanding with others. Forgiveness goes a long way, and if he is willing to forgive us every single time, we must do the same and forgive others
ReplyDeleteI see this as a challenge for every generation. While it is difficult at times it is a path to following Jesus as a role model in our lives.
